Thanks, Guido! Two things:

When it comes to UX, especially mobile, putting clicks in between a user and her desire is always a punishment.

I also just don’t think comprehension should be a requirement. As a journalist, you’re in the business of explaining things. Just like you’d demand a clarification from a source if you didn’t understand something, a reader has the right to demand a clarification from you.
